Sorry

Due to a situation beyond our control, namely the rampant competitive nature of the tribe contest, I, Nathan R. Petrie, made a bad decision. I decided to pretend to be a SS leader,(Guys I love you) and in so doing give a false resignation for their tribe. So, you can read the statement here : http://swiftstormtribe.blogspot.com/2010/11/we-surrender.html It was both unprofessional and un-courteous to do this to their tribe. Something that was tried as a joke turned out…slightly less, or more than a joke depending on how you look at it. I just want to say that I think Millard, Seth, and the whole rest of the SS group are infinitely more professional than I am. And I am really fearing that they’ll beat me and my tribe. I love my tribe, the kids are great..but they can’t really match what SS has going on right now. So, I apologize for my “blogpost” and just want to say, I congratulate you on an early win SS.

MY BAD! :(

TRIBE BUILDING PART TWO

Wayne Batson and Christopher Hopper (YA Fantasy authors) have launched yet another Tribe Building Contest. The point of the contest, as it was last time, is to promote their books and their names. As a tribe/team we complete tasks that are worth different point amounts. The tribe with the most points wins, although there are prizes for the top 4 tribes.

Silvertree, I am here to ask if you would like to participate once again. Some of you were highly involved, others not so much. it's summer! And with that comes a whole lot more time. If you would like to play tribe building again please comment here or by email and tell me so.

Obviously, I'd love to have every single one of you back in the tribe! You were all so fun to play this game with last time! If you are not playing, please reply telling me so. If you are playing, and wish to join a different tribe, I need to know that as well.

Obviously, I'd love for you all to stay with Silvertree.I was on a fast when the contest kicked back into gear so I think some of you may have been snagged by other tribes. You have dibs on coming back to Silvertree. Things aren't set in stone yet ;)

I have some really awesome plans for this year! I expect to me more organized, yes MORE, more involved, and more amazingly open category usableness. (That made no sense). I have a new blog set up with crazy organization, understanding, etc. If you join the tribe again I'll email you the link and permissions.

Those of you that did practically everything you could last time: Fear not! There is still more that you can do. This round, I believe, the game will be decided by AOC points. I've contacted WTB about the ideas we started on last time. He mentioned crazy point-age last time and on his blog he's promised MORE this time around. The pointage will be insane!

Those of you that weren't very involved: No problem! Do as little or as much as you'd like! Obviously we'd love you to do a LOT but the little helps just as much. This summer you'll have more opportunities and I'll update you guys more! Fresh start! And....there's a whole other book to work with! VAS comes out in a week!

To all Silvertree re-join-ers: Thanks so much! I'm stoked! I'll be emailing you the new blog permissions and new information shortly. One thing I'd ask from you is a three sentence, give or take, bio. What do you want the tribe to know about you? If nothing, that's cool. You can be the invisible point-getters ;)

Thanks guys! I look forward to playing with you!

Tribes Rise Again!

Reading WTB's blog, it seem fairly obvious that another tribe contest will be started in order to promote Venom and Song. If so, we may want to plan for the future, If WTB lets us keep all the tribes intact then we probably won't need to do anything (unless you want to leave, of course) if he clears the tribes, would we want to all stay together until we can gather in a tribe (Silvertree if we can get the name, or another name if some other tribe beats us to the punch) Also, Keeneye, would you still be willing to lead the tribe or would you like another member to step up and try leading? Or, last option, Would you just all want to go separate ways and join whatever tribe you wish?

'After Math'!

Now that the contest is done and over (congratulations to nightwing), what should become of our little clan of elves? I understand that most of us are bloggers -- so some of us can keep in contact -- but what about everyone else? I propose we form something like a Chat-Room!

What does everyone else think of the idea?

The results have been posted!

The results have been posted! We were 2nd. Nightwing put in an incredible effort with 825,700 points! Congrats Nightwing! Silvertree, great job! Even if we didn't win, we still put in a good effort and helped promote WTB's books! Great job to everyone who participated in this contest!

A Message from Mr. Batson

Here is an email I just got:

To Nathan and Tribe SilverTree

I will be posting the final results for the Tribe Building Contest on my blog and on the Underground, FB and everywhere else....tonight.

Without focusing on Win/Loss, I just wanted to say thank you. On behalf of a mission that is much bigger than Wayne Batson or Christopher Hopper writing books, you and your team came through BIG TIME. The seeds you have planted here may well lead hundreds of people and beyond a few steps closer to the Lord, and where from there? Ah, in Heaven, I bet we'll all find out.

I don't know, but I can guess how busy your lives already are. I know all of this took tons of extra time and effort. And, well…I want you to know I appreciate your effort so much. I feel like, in a way, we've gone to battle together.

So for now, I lift my sword in your honor. Well fought!

Never alone.

-Wayne Thomas Batson

What this means I do not know. But I find it very thoughtful of WTB to email me.
Aren't WTB and CH just awesome? :)

The Final Report

So the final report had be all stressed out. I had tons of emails filled with points, I actually had to sift through them a day early. Eventually I was done, way past my bedtime Sunday night. The total and a few chats with Seth of Swiftstorm had me terribly nervous and I was certain we had lost.

Come to find out this morning that one of the tribe members sent me points at 11:53PM EST, 7 minutes before tribe building ended. Quickly I forwarded the email to WTB promising that I hadn't messed with the time of the email. I hope it will still count. An additional 10K+ was handed in lol

In the end our final Vanadil count is.........................................

516,600!!!!

I don't know if this is enough, I'm still horribly nervous, but I know it was the best our tribe could do. I am so sorry, I feel like I didn't pull my weight, for not getting the top number of points. I kinda feel like I let you down. Ah well, I hope it's enough.

Congrats Silvertree!

Leaderboard Conundrum [From WTB]

To Tribe Nightwing and Silvertree,

The error made in the scoring is my own. In looking back over the amount of points earned for various projects, I realized there was some inequity between time spent/quality produced and actual points earned. I realized that in some cases, I had awarded fairly large point sums for activities that actually take very little time or effort, such as posting the same book review in ten different places.

And, after reading the responses to Nightwing's Promo Video on my blog, I realized that I had vastly underscored their efforts here. So many tribe member were involved in that project, and so many put in so much time...well, I really should have awarded them a much higher sum in the first place. You should realize that I showed the video to professionals at my publisher and they RAVED about it.

So, all that said, I remedied my initial error by awarding Nightwing additional points. According to my calculations, the scores for your two tribes are as follows:

Silvertree: Taken by Keeneye

409,800 Vanadils

Nightwing: Taken by Jacob Parker

[I'm not posting, but more than that. Only about 2K though]

It's now a virtual dead heat. May the best tribe win.

Never alone.

-WtB

Leader Board

Most of you by now have seen that Mr. Batson ranked us 2nd. According to my point total and Jacob's we should be up by a large amount.

I have emailed Mr. Batson concerning this and will likely hear back today or tomorrow. I will be sure to let you know what he says.

In the meantime, today is the second to last tribe report. It's the last week, let's go all out. Send me everything you've done (especially the Time Sensitive thing) and do everything you can!

Thanks for hanging in there guys! Hopefully we'll have things figured out shortly lol

"One Last Time!"

Theoden: So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?
Aragorn: Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them.
Theoden:For death and glory.
Aragorn: For Rohan. For your people.
Theoden: The Horn of Helm Hammerhand will sound in the deep, one last time!

One last time! Can you hear it? The horn of Silvertree will ring out one last time!

This is the final week of the Tribe Building contest. That means that by Sunday everyone should have, at the very least, 10K. Bloggers, you should have nearly 20K. And anyone with internet access and a library should be over 40K.

There is only one week left. For people such as Millard, Winter, and myself it's time to wrap up all loose ends and hand in everything we've got. Have you fallen behind on points? Have you not participated at all? Have you hardly broken a thousand points?

You have one week to give your all.

Winning this challenge is very plausible. Within our grasp. We were winning at last count, we can be winning again.

Here are quick ways to get points:

Write REVIEWS: Most of you have read all of Wayne and Christopher's books. So review them! Post each review on 10 sites (see list here) and review all of the books you have read. This takes less than a hour, or maybe an hour total, to review and post all the reviews. And that gives you what? 40,000 Points! That's easy. You've no excuse not to get those ;) LOL jk

Post PURCHASING LINKS on Your Blog: Do you have a blog? Public or private? Great! Email me (Keeneye) at ServantOfTheOne (at) Gmail (dot) com for things called "purchasing links". If you go to my blog you can find them on the bottom sidebar. If you email me I will give you the codes and explain how to post them. For simply posting these you earn 8,000 points. That is easy stuff. And you don't even have to make them visible.

Mention ONE OF THE BOOKS in a BLOG POST: 100 points for every blog post mentioning a book.

Post BLOG LINKS on Your Blog:
100 points for every link to Wayne's Blog, Christopher's blog, or the Berinfell website.

Post COVER ART with AMAZON LINKS: Posting cover art and making it link (I can explain to you how) to the Amazon purchasing site is worth 100 Points.

I am asking every single member of this tribe (Millard, Winter, and myself included) to earn 1,000 points for this final week. If you're an active member bring us 5,000. If you have the time, bring us more.

You're playing for the oppurtunity of the life time! Is it worth two hours?

T-691200 and counting~!

Who here knows what is so significant about 691200? Anybody going to raise their hand? Yes? Maybe? Well I'll tell ya!! T-691200 is how much time until tribe ends on midnight tonight! Yes sir, in seconds this is when we end. Doesn't seem like much does it? What sort of lead do we really have? Perhaps, 1k, or two reviews and a poster to snatch victory from us. Maybe 5k? Ten reviews and one poster to beat us? Or maybe even 15k! But even that number.....is only five videos and eleven reviews to steal it. Think about this, NW is a big tribe! It would be FAR to easy for them to beat us in the end stretch. I think we have gotten a bit cocky, I for one want us to win, who is with me?

Elves! Our time is near!

Greetings fellow elves. We meet here in secret in our cavern, we like to call Consecro, or Silvertree depending on the dialect, the day of reckoning is near. The enemy will be swept away like dust before a broom, beat out like dirt out of a rug on cleaning day! But....Can the dust be swept without effort? Can you burglarize a strong man's house without first binding him? Will the rug beat itself? NO!

We are destined to win fellow elves, but what if that destiny of victory is snatched? What if all your points were for aught? Victory torn from your grasp at the end? The prize long sought after stolen!

This is what we are faced with elves, we can sweep or the dust AKA other tribes. Or let is lay on the floor and maybe stir up trouble. Let us finish! And Finish Strong :D

Long Live Berinfell! And Long live the Consecro ELVES!

A Missed Report

I am terribly sorry Silvertree. This past week I completely forgot about Tribe Reports. I was writing with two members of Nightwing, Christian Miles and Jacob Parker (Dwarf). I think it was their evil plot to distract me ;) lol JK

Anyhow, I haven't been on the forum in a while OR this blog OR email it seems. That is because Scott Appleton, owner of Flaming Pen Press, has invited me to submit my new novella idea and I've been writing at it furiously. Please forgive me...and continue sending in points. I will send them all next week ;)

Announcements:

T-Shirts: I emailed Wayne and Christopher over the week about points for T-shirts. They said that buying a shirt is worth 500 points, possibly more, and EVERY day you wear it in public is worth an additional 100 points!

Bookmarks: I emailed Wayne this idea a LONG time ago. And they are waiting for me to have a price range before giving me a quote. What do you guys think? Make bookmarks with the cover and information about COTSK on them and then leave them/hand them out at libraries and schools? Would anyone be willing to make them?

Creation of AOC Materials: Obviously for all of these Amazing Open Category (AOC) ideas we will need designers. For the shirts I would like simply "Endurance and Victory" on the front (maybe a small spider) and the website/author's names on the back. Would someone like to do this? Or shall I?

Anyone up for the bookmarks?

As always, email me at ServantoftheOne@gmail.com for anything you need!

Amazing Open Category - TShirts

I had a brilliant idea the other day.

What if we made T-Shirts for the amazing open category and just to be awesomely cool?

They could read anything from "Heed the Prophecies" to straightway "Silvertree" and we could put the website on the back or something. I have a feeling that WTB would offer huge points for all who buy a shirt and I think it'd be really cool too.

The only problem is...I stink at designing fashion...and especially on the online things.

If someone would like to help out with this that would be AWESOME. I think it's a cool idea :)

What say you?

Further on! Endurance and Victory!

We now know that we are leading the tribes in points, but who knows how long that will last. We need to ensure our eventual victory! I issue yet another challenge, this one for ideas! Does anyone have any ideas for point-making? In the tribe orientation document, there is an option for coming up with ideas for earning points, rewarded accordingly for creativity. I have an idea myself, does anyone else?

Millardthemk of silvertree claims the 5k points in this tribe

I have received mine spoils :D But no spoiling it for others tisk tisk.

Step up to the challenge, and Rise!

SilverTree has hung back long enough. Now we move to victory! We are in the finishing stretch, I lay down the challenge, throw down the gauntlet, issue the remark to you, race to 85k points. Millard, Keeneye and Wintersread have grown lazy on their riches, it is us! The middle and the bottom class that will rise to the finish! Rise with us! Write reviews, contact those lazy few if you have questions! Beat them to 85k! Can we do it in a day? NO Can we do it in a week? NO!
BUT CAN WE ALL RISE TOGETHER AND DO IT IN A MONTH?
YESSS

Long live silvertree!

And Long Live the Middle Pointers!(soon to be basking in their new-found points:D)

Goals, Challenges, New Member, New Highscore

Silvertree! I am so proud of all of you on account of last week! I threw down a challenge of 10K and many of you matched it! If you didn't you got an easy 5K which is very amazing and my buddy Millardthemk made up for it.

On his own Millard earned nearly 40,000 Vanadils!!!!!!

This is a HUGE achievement :) That many points in one week deserves great praise. So because of it, I took a break and let him pass me up in the rankings ;)

That's right. Keeneye Straightarrow no longer leads Silvertree in points. We have a new powerhouse. And his name is Millard. ::applause::

And what did he do to get that many points? Very simple--wrote reviews. It's not too hard. Just review each book on ten different sites and, assuming you've read TDW, TWLC, COTSK, and the Pirate Books, that's an easy 30,000! Millard also did a few videos and stuff that gave him an extra boost.

On that note I'm proud of you guys :) Most all of you have done videos and that's just great :) Keep it up. Those are quick and easy points.

On a different note we have a new member of sorts. She's already flown up the charts, as has Yanks ::cheers::. Her name is Brenna! she's a good friend of mine so welcome her nicely :)

Finally this is what I really wanted to post about. Millardthemk and Winter's Read, the top two scorers of this tribe, have issued a challenge to you all that they want me to repeat. I think they'll be posting it in their own words but here is the gist of it.

Every week for the month of January try and get 20,000 Vanadils. Every week.

There are three weeks left this month for tribe reports. So your total for the month should end up being 60,000. That's what the top three have right now! You coulud get it in three weeks!

Reaching this goal is difficult, but not impossible. It will be harder for the people higher up in points, to them I say set a goal of maybe 10K a week. For those with lesser points here are some easy tips;

  • Write reviews
  • Write blog posts
  • Post links on your blog
  • Post the purchasing links
  • Make videos
  • Go to a store that carries the books and get a photo with an employee (WTB/CH and I will be the only ones seeing the picture if you would like. Or only WTB/CH oif you really want it that way)
  • Twitter/FB about COTSK
  • DO YOUR HOMEWORK
  • But a banner ad on your blog (see the COTSK one on mine)
  • Amazon Listmania
  • FB Fan Pages
  • Make posters
Those are some easy ways. Ones that are mainly free and easy. Remember our focus for the month is internet. So if you think that list is too much, focus on the internet ones. Should you do all of those things you should be fine :) Even if you do most of them :)

And remember. The top seven scorers get an extra prize from the authors. If you want to choose the name of a character in their next book, or have it named after you. Try and make it to that top 7. It's not that hard ;)

Endurance and Victory to all of you! Cling to the tree that is silver!

Edited Video Info

Mr. Batson recently posted more information regarding videos on the Tribe Contest 1st Score Ranking thread. It's a little different from what Keeneye said, so I'm posting it here just to make sure that everyone sees the new info.

Mr. Batson said:
About the Video component: I recently received an email about the total number of points that could be earned by creating a video to promote and of CH and My books, including Spider King. In my response, I may have misled, b/c I've been seeing tribe members quoting all kinds of GIGANTIC points! Here's the real deal about videos:

A. A video about one book by one person = 2000 points.

B. If one person did a separate video for each of our books, that would 2000 X 8 books = 16000 points total.

C. In order for a video to count, you must post it on at least TWO very visible sites: YouTube, Tangle, Facebook, that kind of thing. But it's NOT, I repeat, NOT 2000 per video, per person, per site posted!!!! Example: Biff makes a Spider King video (2,000 points), but he posts the video in ten places. He does NOT earn 20,000 points!! But rather, he earns, 2000 points. The most any ONE person could earn for his Tribe with videos is 16,000 vanadils.

D. In addition, videos must achieve a level of quality that represents the book in a favorable light. If the video is cheesey, people will likely think the book is cheesey.

E. Extra points will be awarded for higher quality videos; points may be deducted for lame videos.

I hope that clears things up.

Videos and More Info!

I emailed Mr. Batson recently and asked if we were able to post videos on more than one site.

He said we could post them on TEN.

What's this mean? If you have made a video for one of their books, or for the tribe, post it EVERYWHERE. Facebook counts, says WTB, as well as any other video placing website. 2,000 points for each posting :) That's a ton of points. So DO IT

Also, here is my tribe video :) Enjoy!

Another New Member

I'd like you all to meet Ginko!!!

The latest member of our tribe!

We owe it to Jacob, he sent him our way :) So maybe we could spot Nightwing a few points ::laughs:: jk Plus you guys manned the helm while I was gone :) Great work.

Hope you find your way around Ginko! Email any of us if you have questions!

New Year, New Member, New Theme

Happy new year, tribe of the tree!

2009 wasn't too bad for me and I hope 2010 is 10 times (pun intended) as good as the last.

Today we are to welcome a new member into our tribe yanksrule23!!!!!! It's always awesome to have new members, so welcome him in and show him around ::laughs::

Multimedia December is still in the works for myself (I plan to do a few videos/posters next this week) but with the start of the new week and month I have called in a new plan of action.

Internet Invasion January.

That's right, for the month of January I want you all to do EVERYTHING on the list that involves internet. That means writing reviews, creating blogs, posting on blogs, posting purchasing links, normal links, Amazon Listmania Links, fan pages, finish the ARG, and of course videos and the like.

Hopefully you all understand what it means to write a review but if not, stay tuned for an explanation.

  1. Writing Reviews - A book review, or any review for that matter, states what the story is about, its postive/negative elements, and what the reader thought of the reivew. For my review of Curse of the Spider King please click here and you can get some ideas on how to write one. That review was number one on amazon until someone voted it down <_< Once you have written your review you should post it on all of the following sites: Amazon.com, BooksAMillion.com, Buy.com, Pronto.com, Borders.com, BarnesandNoble.com, GoodReads.com, Shelfari.com, Powells.com, and Biblio.com. If you happen to need any more sites please email me as I do have a couple more. Each review is worth 500 points, so posting a review on all ten sites will give you 5,000.
  2. Creating a blog - Because you all are writers on this blog you have been given a blogger account. With said account you have the ability to create your own blog, for yourself, a friend, or a topic you and a few would like to write about. You can even make one just to post your stories on. If you are allowed PLEASE do this. On a blog you can make purchasing links (I will be explaining how to do this shortly, please ask if you want to know) and post them giving yourself 8,000 points. You also can post more links and blog on topics to earn a few thousand more. This is a great way to connect with more fans/writers as well as win a TON of points.
  3. Amazon Listmania - Each list is worth 200 points and you are allowed to make 10 of them. For a total of 2,000 points. They are very easy to make and are worth it in the long run. Go to your Amazon page and scroll down. Somewhere it should say "Listmania" make a new one and include one or all of CH/WTB's books. That's how you get the points. Email me the links and you'll get credit.
  4. If you are on Facebook you can make fan pages for any or all of WTB/CH's books. Each fan page is worth 200 points. There are 10 books (If you count VAS and AD) so that's 2,000 Points.
  5. Alternate Reality Game - Only one person per tribe may recieve credit for completing the ARG. Millard and I will be of the first six to complete it. So do it for fun, but we are the ones who get credit, the first one. Pst, I'll beat you Millard ;) lol jk jk
  6. Videos - See last post. Each one is worth 2,000 Points.
So that's that. Also watch WTB's blog for time sensitive challenges that are worth HUGE amounts of points.

Thanks to Millard for updating tribe points when I was busy. ::claps his hands::

Also, a challenge for the month.

I want each of you to score 5,000-10,000 points EVERY week. This isn't as hard as it sounds. Figure writing a review for ONE of the books and posting it on ten sites gives you 5,000. That's already the goal. And if you happened to do a few videos and a couple reviews you're already over 10,000. It's an easy challenge, but it would help out a LOT.

So, who's in?

And welcome to yanks!
